Police face difficult split-second decisions - News from southeastern Connecticut - theday.com

Put yourself in the shoes of a law officer. You have made a stop, for whatever reason, and before you leave your vehicle you know that the person stopped has a police record. You leave your vehicle to issue a ticket or make an arrest, be the person Black or white. In the process of doing your duty, the person resists arrest and makes a sudden move for something in his vehicle. You have to make an instant decision and if it is the wrong one you may be wounded or killed.

If you are killed will there be a big demonstration? No, you were killed in the line of duty. If you shoot the person and they happen to be Black, there will be all kinds of destruction of innocent people’s property and possibly murders committed.

I am afraid that if this escalates much further, we will end up in civil war, God forbid! It is time for the governors and mayors to show some leadership, get behind their police forces and other law enforcement and end this violence before it is too late. Defunding the police is the most ridiculous move possible. Judging the whole police force by the stupid moves by a few is not fair.

God help America.
