1. Stop in the moment, in the here and now moment, and take a few deep breaths, most effectively, in through your nose, and exhaling out through pursed lips ( as if trying to blow out a candle very slowly). let each exhale become longer than the inhale. You may count mentally in for 5, out for 8, or start with in for 3, out for six.
2. Jump/dance/shake around the room, or outside, to music that moves you.
3. Slow down while taking a walk outside, and notice mother nature. Look closely with wonderment at the trees, the flowers, the colors. Listen to the sounds of nature, smell the flowers and breathe deeply in the fresh air (it doesn’t have to be a long walk either).
4. Write down 3 things you are grateful for…you cannot be both anxious or stressed and/or angry while at the same time being grateful
5. Breathe in calm, peace, ease, for ex. (the good stuff) and breath out your concerns, troubles, worries (the bad stuff).
6. Do a random act of kindness for yourself or someone else.
7. Light a candle and gaze into the flame to bring a sense of peace.
8. Slow down eating one of your meals and really take the time to taste your food. Notice the colors on your plate, and think about how they got there
9. 16 Seconds to Calm- Breathe in for a count of 4, gently hold the breath in for a count of 4, exhale for a count of 4, and hold the breath out for 4. (do a few rounds)
10. Abdominal Breathing-Place one hand on the chest and the other on the belly and take a deep breath in through the nose, inflating the belly, the upper ribcage, and up into the clavicles, and fully deflating as you release all of the air out.
**** This one is really good for increasing lung capacity & oxygen flow to the brain, decreasing heart rate & blood pressure, & increases overall alertness****
11. Simply catch yourself breathing – Whatever you are doing, simply notice the fact that you are being breathed, quite involuntarily, because if we had to remember to take the next breath, and then the next, we would all be goners
