Post office making things difficult for seniors (letter to the editor) - silive.com

simpanta.blogspot.com

What happened to me today not only applies to Staten Island post offices, but citywide. I’m a senior citizen and Navy veteran. I visited the Hylan Boulevard post office to renew my wife’s passport, which was damaged beyond repair due to the Ida storm. In the past 30 years, I’ve renewed our passports via paper application forms.

Not anymore. Now, according to the post office, a computer system for passports is now in effect. I explained that neither my wife nor I own a computer. It was then suggested I find a computer operator to make my application. This is not fair to senior citizens, many of whom don’t own computers, much less know how to operate them proficiently.

I do understand that we live in the computer age. But, seniors have it tough enough dealing with life’s trials and tribulations. They shouldn’t have to purchase a $1,200 computer just to renew a passport.

Can’t an exception be made for senior citizens?
