Another Pennsylvania college is closing.
Clarks Summit University is at least the fourth college in the Keystone State to announce that it’s closing this year.
The 92-year-old Christian school will close after the summer semester, the college announced on July 1.
“The Board of Trustees and employees have worked to overcome the most recent challenges and have exhausted every viable solution to bridge a significant financial gap. Despite all efforts, the financial gap remains,” the school said in the announcement. “Due to these financial circumstances, Clarks Summit University’s Board of Trustees has made the difficult and painful decision to begin the process of closure.
Clarks Summit University including Baptist Bible Seminary, will not offer classes starting in the fall.
“CSU is committed to helping students navigate this decision as they seek to smoothly transition to another university to continue their education,” the school said.
The college said it has agreements with Cairn University, Liberty University, Lancaster Bible College and Davis College to accept all credits earned at Clarks Summit University (with some conditions), so students can continue on their original timeline in completing a degree.
Clarks Summit University is located in Clarks Green, Lackawanna County.
Three other schools in Pennsylvania are also closing. Cabrini University at 610 King of Prussia Road in Radnor Township, Delaware County, closed on June 30. Cabrini is laying off 363 people. The University of the Arts at 320 Broad St. in Philadelphia closed on June 7, and 704 people were laid off. Pittsburgh Technical College at 1111 McKee Road in North Fayette Township, Allegheny County, near Oakdale, will close on Aug. 9.
