What a crazy time in the world to be a leader.
From business owner all the way to the White House, folks are being asked to make decisions in a truly unusual day.
No matter your take on all the things that are happening, all would agree that it is time to return to a simpler time.
The problem is there are no simple answers to the very complex issues.
When Andy Beshear took office, do you think dealing with a pandemic was at the top of his list of issues to address.
Heck, dealing with the Republicans would be a whole lot easier than figuring out the right decisions in stamping out the COVID-19 virus.
No matter your decision, you will be challenged both in the public and in the court of law.
Those are the times when true leaders make decisions that they feel are the right ones for the people.
President Trump, like him or not, has a monumental task in how the country’s top leader responds to this pandemic.
No matter his decisions, some will not agree. And that can come from members of either party.
A second national crisis is the protests over racial inequality. No easy answers to a very complex social issue.
Leaders throughout the country are trying to get a handle on this most disturbing situation.
This country is a land of opportunity and our leaders must prove that.
Going back to the virus, people want their sporting events to return. That might not be an easy move, especially when dealing with high-contact sports.
Athletic leaders are balancing a very difficult task. In this one, financial issues drift into the issue of health.
While Beshear is dealing with statewide issues relating to the virus, look at the education leaders.
Dr. Jesse Bacon, superintendent of Bullitt County Public Schools, is working with his team in determining the safest way to begin classes next month.
No easy answers.
We talk about leadership so often when it comes to our elected officials, those who lead our businesses and others who play a role in the community.
The effectiveness of those leaders is often gauged by our personal opinions. Too many times those opinions are coated in our political convictions.
For example, Beshear was viewed as doing a very good job when the virus began. As days and weeks passed and businesses were shut down, the honeymoon period ended quickly.
Is the state’s low number of cases and deaths due to the actions of the governor?
Did he go too far in the shutdown that the business impact outweighed the health benefits?
Did he do what he thought was the right thing to do for the state of Kentucky without the benefit of hindsight?
Sorry to his distractors. Like many leaders, he did what he felt was right for the entire state.
What a time to be a leader.
