Batman: Dying Is Easy's Dark Knight Is WAY More Twisted Than Joker - CBR - Comic Book Resources

WARNING: The following contains spoilers for Batman: Dying is Easy, now streaming on YouTube.

Bat in the Sun's crowdfunded fan film, Batman: Dying is Easy, focuses on Batman (Kevin Porter) trying to crack a case regarding three missing cops in Gotham. However, his mission gets derailed when he's told that Joker (Aaron Schoenke) is dying and wants a meeting at Arkham as part of his last will and testament. The meeting doesn't go according to plan for the Clown Prince of Crime, mostly because this version of the Dark Knight is way more twisted than previous iterations.

Batman's given word by Harvey Bullock and Hugo Strange that the meeting's been set up, and when he gets there, as expected, Joker starts to play mind games. He confirms the punchline of his life's ironic because it's skin cancer that's killing him, but true to character, he wants the Dark Knight to break his code before he dies.

Joker keeps tormenting him about how he killed Jason Todd and assaulted Barbara Gordon, but when the Caped Crusader assaults Joker, tying him up with chains, he actually begins gloating about how irrelevant the clown is. Killer Croc, Poison Ivy and so many others are making the news now, but the Clown Prince of Crime believes he has one more trick up his sleeve. However, things don't go his way because when Joker reveals he's the one who gutted some missing cops and hid their bodies away at a park, all Batman does is smile and ask Oracle to send the info to the cops.

It's at this point the Bat confesses it was all a setup and he was playing Joker all along. In the fight to open the short, he saw one of Mad Hatter's goons with a baton belonging to one of the cops. He assessed it and found Joker's prints, and over the last few days, he's been gaslighting the clown. Batman faked the toxicology report and blood work, while also poisoning Joker's water supply in order to get the clown to believe he was dying.

Batman got desperate because he needed to find the cops to give their families the closure he never got and knew by messing with Joker's mortality, he would inspire the villain to try to corrupt him. After leaving Joker impressed with his actions, the Dark Knight goes to pick up the bodies with Bullock, who appears a bit worried that his ally has crossed a line.
