WAUSAU, Wis. (WSAW) - The weather is always changing, keeping farmers on high alert. Especially strawberry farmers who are struggling in some parts of Wisconsin.
Some farms in the area had difficulty starting with the frost at the beginning of the season, and more recently the heat.
But that isn’t the case for Engelberry Farm in Merill, because its something the farm has dealt with before and is able to manage.
“It didn’t affect us as much because we weren’t having our fruit set at the time. So, our fruit looks really good,” Engelberry Farm owner, Michael Matushak said.
Dozens of people were out strawberry picking for the second day of the season at the farm Sunday. Matushak said he hopes picking will last three to three and a half weeks.
The farm strongly encourage people to call in advanced to make sure the farm is open and have strawberries ready to be picked.
The farm’s number is (715) 536-9091.
