Lando Norris hopes that the Singapore Grand Prix is "the most difficult race ever in F1" to overtake, after qualifying in sixth for McLaren.

Despite the team bringing significant upgrades for his car during the weekend, Norris still believes that it will be a tough race for the squad to stay in a good points-paying position as they battle Alpine for fourth in the Constructors' Championship.

"I just kind of pray that it's the most difficult race ever in Formula 1 to overtake," he told media, including RacingNews365.com.

"I feel like my mirrors are going to have a lot of cars in [them]. I don't mind, I would have a bit more faith if it's going to be dry to have a good result then if it's wet."

Norris: Balance was "going away too much" in wet conditions

The qualifying session was tricky for drivers to assess, as track evolution played a big part in lap time coupled with it drying from the downpour earlier in the day.

Norris believes that other drivers were able to unlock more lap time in the changeable conditions quicker than McLaren could.

"The track was drying and we the balance was kind of going away with the track too much," he explained.

"When we're on a new tyre, beginning of Q1 or beginning of Q2, then things were good.

"But as it was getting drier in general on the Intermediate tyre, I feel like we were drifting away a little bit as well, or people could just unlock a bit more lap time than what we could.

"The bigger thing was just it was slicks in the wet in Q3, so it matters less about the balance of the car and more about the risk you can take."
