Meghan Markle reportedly found the walkabout with Prince Harry, Prince William, and Kate Middleton at Windsor Castle, two days after the Queen’s death, “very difficult.”

On September 10th, two days after Queen Elizabeth II had passed away, the two couples once known as the fab four seemed to put on a united front as they greeted mourners who came to Windsor Castle to pay their respects to the late monarch. However, according to royal biographer Robert Jobson’s new book, Our King: Charles III, Meghan, 41, found it “very difficult” for a number of different reasons.

According to Jobson, Prince William, 40, wanted to put on a united front following his grandmother's death, and therefore invited Prince Harry, 38, and Meghan to join him and Kate, 41, at Windsor Castle to greet the mourners. However, Jobson recalled how the Duchess of Sussex found it difficult being away from her children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, who were still in California, and also felt uneasy with the Prince and Princess of Wales among all the royal family drama.

If you'll recall, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex were in Europe without their children for a series of charity appearances when Queen Elizabeth passed away on September 8th. The Sussexes therefore extended their trip following the Queen's passing to attend her funeral. Jobson wrote: "That's the longest they had ever been away from the kids, and then on top of it, knowing what's being said out there – it was very difficult."

Kate Middleton Also Found Windsor Walkabout Challenging

The former Suits actress wasn’t the only one who felt uneasy, as Kate Middleton also found the Windsor walkabout very difficult. According to Woman & Home, Prince William *did* invite his brother and sister-in-law to join him and Kate at Windsor Castle, but it was actually Kate who came up with the idea of the walkabout itself! A friend of Kate's even reportedly told People that it was because "she didn't want her or William to have any regrets" further down the line. However, despite it being her idea, the Princess of Wales found it very challenging.

"Rushing to our television sets, we watched as the two princes and their wives emerged from Windsor Castle together to greet the crowds and look at their floral tributes," Jobson wrote in his book. "It had been Prince William's idea, we later learned, to put on a show of unity – a gesture that would surely have touched his deeply Christian grandmother. And for a few minutes, it looked as though the warring couples had slipped back in time, before bitterness and harsh words had destroyed their relationship," he continued.

"Sadly, it was all an illusion – as sources close to the royal family have confirmed to me," he added. "Catherine later admitted to a senior royal that, such was the ill feeling between the two couples, the joint walkabout was one of the hardest things she had ever had to do."
