Habitat for Humanity of Cleveland’s Executive Director Tammy Johnson, and Easy Auto’s President Ben Chandler, announced that Anthea Blair was the winner of the Family Fundraiser on Facebook Live on Friday, April 17.
The Family Fundraiser - put on by Habitat, Easy Auto and Mix 104.1 - was a friendly competition among the five future Habitat homeowners to see who could raise the most money for Habitat of Cleveland. From last December to March of this year, families helped raise funds to go toward the building of their homes. They knew that the family who raised the most money was to receive a car, generously donated from Easy Auto of Cleveland.
“Keeping with the model of Habitat being a hand up, not a handout, we came up with the idea of having families partner in a fundraiser,” said Tammy Johnson, executive director of Habitat of Cleveland. Collectively, the five families raised over $15,000.
“We are thrilled as a company to be involved with the Habitat organization,” said Mr. Chandler, president of Easy Auto. “This is a wonderful piece of news in the middle of a stressful time for folks. We’re happy to be involved and can’t wait for future projects with Habitat.”
Ms. Johnson and Mr. Chandler surprised Anthea Blair and her three teen-age children with the news that they had won the Family Fundraiser, when they arrived at Easy Auto the morning of April 17.
“This means the world to me,” said Ms. Blair. “This is going to help us out so much. It’s been really difficult having only one vehicle and I never could have afforded to get my kids a vehicle right now.”
Another partner for the Family Fundraiser was MIX 104.1 who promoted the fundraiser along with the Home and Garden show, which has been rescheduled for Sept. 19, due to COVID-19.
