Coronavirus Making It Difficult for Dress Shops - Spectrum News

BOONE, N.C. – The coronavirus canceled proms, and it now has people postponing their weddings. It has also made things difficult for dress shops.

South's Specialty Clothiers owner says closing down the store was difficult and now the uncertainty is still there. The store has around $120,000 in prom dresses, waiting in the store to be sold.

Recently, they have seen more brides, as some are switching their big deal to small intimate ceremonies, but those brides are buying off the rack.

Owner Lou Ella South says unless you have a long time, special orders are not an option anymore.

"It's been very stressful on everybody, especially on dresses that have been ordered, we now have some companies telling us it will be one year before they can deliver a special order," South says.

Everyone in this shop is asked to wear a mask and wash their hands when entering. Dresses are also quarantined for 24 hours after a bride tries them on.

If you feel more comfortable with a private session, employees are able to schedule a time for you to come before or after store hours.
