QUINCY, IL (WGEM) -- Quincy firefighters responded to a house fire at 1328 N. 3rd Street at about 2 a.m. on Monday.
Fire officials said two people were able to make it out of the house safely, but they were sent to the hospital due to exposure to the bitter cold.
Crews were seen fighting the fire from both the alley behind house and on 3rd St. in front of house.
The extreme cold also made fighting the fire difficult.
The water used to put out the fire quickly turned to ice on the structure.
Fire officials said the two homes next to the fire were evacuated as a precaution.
Quincy Police Department and Adams County Emergency Management also responded to the scene.
Police had traffic on 3rd and 4th Streets blocked off while firefighters worked to put out the fire.
