Returning All-Patriot League player Nicholas Klock (Moraga, Calif.) was the Mids' top performer in the opening round with his 3-over par 75. He sits just a stroke out of 10th place. Team captain Chad Deegan (Sr / Newport Beach, Calif.) and newcomer Benjamin Valdez (Fr / Stevenson Ranch, Calif.) are inside the top 20 with a 4-over par 76. Keegan Shreves (Jr / Potomac, Md.), who placed third at last year's championship, is tied for 25th with a 5-over par 77, while Andrew Wilkinson (Fr / Ashland, Va.) is 4th with a 9-over par 81 and Braxton Tracy (Jr / Huntersville, N.C.) is 48th with a 13-over par 85.
"We played in heavy, swirling winds today, but we also were not our sharpest around the greens," said Navy head coach Pat Owen."I was proud of the guys for fighting back hard after a slow start and we hope to build on that momentum tomorrow."
Tournament Notes
• Loyola and tournament host Lafayette are atop the leader board with a 6-over par 294, while Lehigh and Holy Cross are level at 9-over par 297.
• Loyola has 3 players among the top 10, including Brandon Berry and Carlo Pizzano who shot par and are in a four-way tie for third in the standings.
• Lafayette's Ryan Tall is currently in the individual medalist position, leading all scorers with a 3-under par 69. Holy Cross' Christian Emmerich, meanwhile, is the only other golfer to finish the opening round under par (1-under).
Navy will be paired with Bucknell for round two on Saturday with tee times beginning at 8:00 am.
