It wasn't until Tuesday morning hours after the rain stopped that Rumford residents started feeling the worst impacts from Monday's storm. "I got a nine-year-old who's freaking out," said Chirs Lary, whose street along Route 2 in Rumford is flooded. "He’s like, what if we have to leave? I'll carry him on my back, that's what I do."Residents of Oxford County woke up to flooding from the Androscoggin River. As of 10 a.m., the water was still rising as locals started taking stock of the damage. "I got up at 3:30 a.m. and it was about ankle deep in my driveway, moved my cars up the hill to avoid damage," said Lary. His landlord left a sedan in the driveway which is now nearly submerged. Many residents were isolated since most of the major access roads to the region were closed. A man in Dixfield spent the morning trying to figure out how to reach family members in Mexico, who were stuck without power. "I'd like to like to maybe get them over here at our place where they can at least be warm, at least do something," said Paul Cartwright. He was hopeful that some of the access roads would clear or that they'd regain power, but for locals, uncertainty looms. "It all depends on how long this thing is going to last," said Cartwright. There's a warming shelter inside the gym at Mountain Valley High School in Rumford.
