The Chicago Bears have an important decision to make at quarterback this offseason given they’re expected to have the No. 1 pick in the NFL draft.
General manager Ryan Poles has to decide between drafting a quarterback (likely Caleb Williams) or stick with Justin Fields and trade the top selection for the second consecutive season.
It’s a decision that’s been made more difficult by the fact that Fields has shown improvement and his insane playmaking ability, according to ESPN insider Jeremy Fowler.
“I was told that Fields has absolutely made Chicago’s decision in the draft difficult by his playmaking and how he has done this year,” Fowler said on Sportscenter Saturday.
Fields has proven to be a dynamic playmaker for the Bears, where he’s grown as a passer in his third season. Not to mention, he’s arguably the NFL’s best running quarterback. Fields is a well-respected leader in the locker room and his teammates have vocally supported him as the franchise quarterback beyond this year.
Ultimately, Poles will do his due diligence on Williams, Drake Maye and other prospects before deciding whether to draft one or stick with Fields. But it certainly sounds like Fields is making Poles reconsider what many believe is a no-brainer.
