When you become a parent, you just assume that the stage you are in is the hardest. Newborns are tricky, and the little sleep and constant feeding can have you thinking that this is the hardest stage. Then, your sweet little baby turns into a toddler and you are definitely sure that 2 is the hardest age to parent. It doesn’t take long before you realize that every single age comes with its challenges, but no one can seem to agree on what the “hardest” age is when it comes to parenting.

A survey was done, and the shocking results showed that the magic number may be 8. According to Parents, 8 may be the most difficult age to parent. The survey was done by OnePoll, and it found that the majority of parents thought that 8 was miles harder than 2 or 4.

There are multiple reasons why 8 may be the hardest, and the main reason is because your child is now a “big kid.” They are also getting ready to enter puberty, and they have a great big attitude to go with it. Hormones are now entering the chat and that can just make everything harder. However, 8 is also not too old to still want cuddles and kisses at night before they go to bed.

2,000 parents were surveyed, and the majority agreed that this was the hardest year. They did also say that age 6 was better than age 7. Which can leave parents who have younger children to wonder if they “peak” at 6 and then it starts going downhill from there.

8-year-old’s are starting to really find their voice, but they don’t know how to regulate yet. This means that there is a lot of slamming doors and rolling their eyes. They are trying to find their independence, which means they are stubborn and defiant. It is going to seem like they have to argue with everything that you say.

The good news is that an 8-year-old will still want their cuddles from mom at the end of the day. The important thing for mom to remember when she is having a particular rough day with her 8-year-old is that it is hard to be 8 too, and they are just trying to find their place in the world, and this can be a pretty hard thing for a child to do. Add in body changes and hormones, and it is just a recipe for disaster.
