NEW HAVEN, Ind. (WPTA21)- One East Allen County Schools parent says this move to virtual learning is going to be difficult for her family.

Tracey Mitchell, like many parents, has a lot on her plate. With three kids to raise a full time job and bills to pay. She worries her busy schedule will make it difficult to help her kids as they learn from home.

"Sometimes I don't get out of work until after 3:30 and by the time I get home it's close to 4:00 so I would have to keep calling them to make sure that they're doing what they need to do because of the distractions," Mitchell said.

Mitchell also says she doesn't have internet this month, so she is struggling to find a way for her kids to stay on top of their studies.

"I don't know how this is going to play out because my kids don't have the internet, and I'm not going to be here to say hey let me take you the library so you can get online for that whole day," Mitchell said.

All of Mitchell's kids are in the age group that is switching to virtual learning. Her daughter, Kyanna Cooper says she knows this change is going to be stressful for her family to adapt to.

"It's very understandable why it would be stressful because she has to be at work and then she has to also take breaks to try to call us which will be inconvenient to her job," Cooper said.

She admits she gets distracted easily so she's worried her grades will suffer, but she understands the district's move.

"I feel like you just have to keep pushing if you want to pass you're gonna go you're gonna push yourself to the limit. So I'm gonna try my best," Cooper said.

As a working mother, Mitchell hopes to stay in close contact with her kids as they transition to virtual learning. She says it will be difficult for her to not be there for them in person.

"My kids are at that age where I can coach them through the phone and they know if I call they know the answer, but as far as me physically being there to teach them that would be hard during the day," Mitchell said.
