And while YouTube Music is said to be ready to replace Google Play Music in its entirety, Android Auto users certainly think otherwise.
Not a long time ago, these users complained that even listening to their own music, sometimes purchased from Google through Play Music, required a subscription in YouTube Music, as the app didn’t allow them to log in and access their libraries without paying first.
The Mountain View-based search giant eventually resolved this by adding a free tier for YouTube Music, only that users who make the switch from Google Play Music come across more and more shortcomings, some of them on Android Auto too.
For example, one of the biggest problems spotted recently concerns the local music library, which for some reason doesn’t show up in full on Android Auto when using YouTube Music.
In other words, YouTube Music only displays some tracks from the local library while ignoring others, and reaching these is actually quite a challenge because they’re not even showing up in search results.
Theoretically, this is a known issue that the Android Auto and YouTube Music teams are already working on, but on the other hand, there are absolutely no specifics as to when a fix could land and what users are supposed to do in the meantime.
With Google Play Music going dark once and for all, it’s very clear that life isn’t easy with YouTube Music on Android Auto, and the one to benefit from the whole thing is none other than Spotify.
