Paul Gable, founder of sign company Gable, donated the “City of Light” to Rescue Fire Company for inclusion in this year’s Train Garden. Rescue Fire Company volunteers went to Curtis Bay, Maryland on Nov. 7 to pick up the display, which will be a centerpiece of RFC’s tradition for years to come.
CAMBRIDGE — As the situation regarding COVID-19 continues to develop, local groups are reaching out to spread the word about their events and schedules. It remains a good idea to check on the status of goods and services before leaving home.

Train Garden
The RFC Train Garden, entering its 86th year, reopens Dec. 1. We look forward to sharing this Cambridge Christmas

Christmas season
Preston Post Office has the letters to Santa box up in the lobby. Have your little ones write a letter to Santa and they will receive a response letter from the big guy himself. No Postage is required for these letters.
Please remember to write your child’s name and return address on the letter so we can make sure it gets back to them. The box is also locked and will be emptied daily. Last day to drop letters is Dec. 18.
MD COVID Alert
The Maryland Department of Health announced the launch of MD COVID Alert, the official COVID-19 Exposure Notifications Express system of Maryland. MD COVID Alert uses Bluetooth technology to notify users who might have been exposed to someone who tested positive for COVID-19 with the goal of reducing infections in Maryland.
Marylanders with an iPhone or Android smartphone will receive a push notification inviting them to receive exposure notification alerts. MD COVID Alert is available at no cost and is voluntary. Users can disable exposure notifications at any time.
“Privacy is important. MD COVID Alert does not collect, transmit, or store personal information of users, and the system is completely anonymous,” said Dr. Katherine Feldman, MDH Contact Tracing Unit Director. “We’re asking Marylanders to add their smartphones to the fight against COVID-19 by using MD COVID Alert.”

Cambridge ballots
Ballots for the Dec. 1 City Runoff were mailed Nov. 9 to all pre-registered Maryland voters. Please follow the directions printed on the back of your ballot.
➡We highly recommend voting your ballot as soon as you receive it and mailing it in or hand delivering it to the mail counter in the US Post Office on High Street. You can avoid possible waiting lines and possible COVID exposure on Dec. 1 by safely voting by mail now. DO NOT drop ballots at City Hall.
In-person voting will take place the same as the City General Election on Oct. 17 – from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. at Chesapeake College, 418 Race St. Enter the building in the back and exit in the front.
The Runoff Candidates are, in alphabetical order:
Mayoral — Andrew Bradshaw and Victoria Jackson-Stanley
Ward Two — LaJan Cephas and Donald Sydnor
Ward Three — Gary Gordy and Jameson Harrington

Scouts close offices
In an abundance of caution, due to the escalation of Covid-19 cases in Maryland and Delaware, we have decided to close our council offices starting Nov. 16 until further notice. Employees will be working from home and will still be answering your calls and processing applications and payments.
Scout Shop orders can still be sent (along with your advancement report) to scoutshop@dmvc.org. Please allow 5-7 days before your event for shipping.
Payments and applications can be left at Akridge Scout Reservation and put in the white lock box outside the door at the administration building.
The latest directive from the State of Maryland has issued an advisory to Marylanders to avoid indoor gatherings of more than 25 people and to avoid traveling to states with a positivity rate above 10% or an average case rate of 20 cases per 100,000 people. Those restrictions may influence your weekend camping plans.
