Chicago White Sox Make it Two Easy Ones in a Row, With 8-3 Victory - South Side Sox

A five-run win in game two of three adds to a White Sox win streak, as well as sealing a second straight series win. Chicago (53-35) has won four consecutive games, while the Orioles (28-60) become the second MLB team to lose 60 games this season.

It was quite the eventful third inning in Baltimore. With runners on first and second base with nobody out, White Sox shortstop Tim Anderson hit a ground-rule double to right field, scoring a run and giving Chicago a 2-0 lead. The line drive stayed just fair past the glove of Orioles first baseman Ryan Mountcastle before being scooped up by the right-field ball boy, the umpires awarding Anderson a ground rule double on the interference.

While the honest mistake led to some questions about the play ruling, a Yoán Moncada double on the very next pitch scored both runners, giving the White Sox a 4-0 lead and making sure the ball boy could have a laugh about his folly.

Lucas Giolito was credited with the win during his start. The right hander went 5 13 innings against Baltimore, giving up two earned runs on six hits and two walks while striking out nine Orioles batters.

White Sox right fielder Brian Goodwin had a spectacular day from the cleanup spot. Goodwin went 4-for-5 from the plate, driving in three runs and scoring twice. Goodwin started off hot with this solo home run his first time up to put Chicago up 1-0:

Goodwin, added early this season as a depth piece after being cut by the Pirates, wasn’t the only outfielder with a home run that made the broadcast.

Making a rehab stint with the Winston-Salem Dash in High-A, Eloy Jiménez ripped a home run to left field, giving White Sox fans an optimistic glimpse into his future return to the majors.

Liam Hendriks earned the save, making his first appearance this series. Hendriks entered the game in the bottom of the eighth in relief of José Ruiz with the bases loaded and two outs. After Ruiz had just walked in the third and final Baltimore run, Hendriks got Orioles pinch-hitter Ryan McKenna to strike out swinging. A 1-2-3 bottom of the ninth then secured the save for the White Sox closer.

One Sunday, the White Sox and Orioles square up for the third and final game of the series in both teams’ last game before the All-Star break. Dylan Cease is scheduled to start against Orioles rookie pitcher Spenser Watkins in a 12:05 p.m. CT game. Hannah LaMotta anchors coverage, with Ashley Sanders working the Six Pack.
