(July 24, 2021) Adam Nagler departed at 5:15 p.m. Saturday on the most difficult leg of his 400-mile paddle-board journey from Virginia to Nantucket, the 40-plus-mile open-ocean crossing from Block Island, R.I. to Martha’s Vineyard.
In addition to having no land to retreat to during the crossing, Nagler said this section will have the most unpredictable conditions in terms of wind, currents and fog.
Nagler arrived on Block Island around 3 a.m. Saturday, after making the crossing from Montauk, N.Y., according to GPS data. After taking refuge at Lighthouse Cove he made his departure 14 hours later.
He is undertaking the journey as a fundraiser for Fairwinds Nantucket, hoping to raise upwards of $35,000 for the counseling center.
