“All of our farmers here really work hard all year and this year has been really tough with the drought and everything that's happening, so we're excited to be able to celebrate all the hard work that our farmer's put in every single day,” Amy Roper, organizer said.

The drought caused both crops and animals to lose out on water—forcing farmers like Bob Olen of Sandy Hill Farm to rely more heavily on irrigation.

“It was very challenging. We pulled a lot of holes and without irrigation, it would have been even more challenging.

Claire Lande of Lande Farms also had to pay extra attention to watering her crops this year, but said all the hard work was worth the final product.

“Every little thing that we have produced—I'm pleased,” Lande said.

Children were also able to support local farmers Saturday, with each child receiving a two dollar token to spend on produce of their choice.

Addtionally, treats and giveaways were a part of the celebration dedicated to supporting and uplifting farmers after a difficult year, as well as, always.

“There’s great joy in bringing really high quality, fresh, local product to people,” Olen said.

“I love being part of the market,” Lande said. “It feels great that people are interested in supporting us.”

Farmer's Market Week celebrations will continue this Wednesday, August 4th from 2:00-5:00pm with anyone welcome to stop by.
