Kate Middleton delighted children across the UK by making a surprise appearance in an online school assembly for the Oak National Academy, an online classroom set up to support teachers and parents during the coronavirus pandemic.
In the pre-recorded 10-minute lesson taped from Middleton’s home at Anmer Hall in Norfolk, England, the mother of three discussed topics including mental health, the importance of kindness and acknowledged that lockdown has been hard on everyone (via Daily Mail).
“Talking to someone, whether it’s a friend, family member, or teacher, is something you can do to make yourself feel that little bit better,” she said in the video. “And you can also play your part in helping others to feel better too, whether offering a friendly ear or helping someone in need.”
The 38-year-old Duchess of Cambridge went on to say, “Small acts of kindness can go such a long way. But as we help others, we mustn’t forget to nurture ourselves, by taking the time to focus on the things that make us feel happy too.”
At one point in the taped virtual assembly, Middleton spoke with children from Waterloo Primary School in Blackpool asking them, “Who wants to tell me what kindness means?”
Meanwhile, Middleton acknowledged that the lockdown had been “difficult” for everyone.
“We all have our ups and downs, especially when things change in our lives as they have in so many ways recently. This can cause us to have a huge range of different feelings,” she added.
“Being unable to see your friends or spend time with your family will undoubtedly be frustrating for you, just as it is for them. It’s been a really difficult time for us all.”
Middleton and husband Prince William, 37, have been highly visible during the coronavirus, making virtual speaking appearances as well as helping deliver meals to isolated elders.
