Don't expect regional public health officials to mandate mask wearing any time soon.
The subject came up during a Regional Council committee meeting Tuesday, when the region's acting medical officer of health was questioned on the subject.
Dr. Hsiu-Li Wang stopped short of recommending the mandate, suggesting many challenges including that it would be difficult to enforce.
"You'd have to have evidence, and usually strong evidence that somebody actually did contravene the order," she said.
Dr. Wang adds she wants to consult with local businesses to promote and facilitate the use of masks across the community, especially where it's impossible to be physically distant.
Last week, officials with Wellington-Dufferin-Guelph Public Health ordered face masks become mandatory in all commercial establishments.
