Jim Langley: As Easy as 1-2-3! - Noozhawk

Life is not easy! In fact, it can be downright difficult.

We all naturally ask tough questions that cannot be easily answered. Wouldn’t it be be wonderful to get answers to those puzzling questions?

Well, here’s a bold proclamation. It all can be as easy as 1-2-3! Simply bring your Heavenly Father into the equation.

The 1-2-3 I’m referring to is found in the Book of Psalms and consists of those first three short psalms/songs presented in God’s Word. These three concise offerings entail just six, 12 and eight verses.

Amazingly, those 26 verses can provide believers with much solace as we go through this journey called life. These lyrics may not answer the “whys” of life. but they can surely help us grasp the intricacy of our Creator and see life from a new perspective.

Let’s look at each psalm separately.

Psalm 1 presents two men, two ways and two destinies. The first three verses represent the obedient follower of the Lord, who does not walk in the ways of the wicked.

In verse 3, we read “He is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither. Whatever he does prospers.”

The final three verses represent the disobedient (wicked, self-centered) person, who is only interested in themselves and not the least concerned about God or others.

In verse 6, we read “For the Lord watches over the way of the righteous, but the way of the wicked will perish.”

In summary, this short song tells us that God is pleased with those who walk in His ways and blesses them continually and He is immensely displeased with those who only care about themselves and live a life filled with self-indulgence.

In the 12 verses found in Psalm 2, we are presented with the coming of the Anointed One, God’s only Son.

This psalm issues a warning to those who are placed in positions of authority. They need to realize Who has put them in those responsible positions and understand they can easily be removed in the blink of an eye. Jesus will eventually rule over the earth with an “iron scepter” and we would all be wise to fear and trust in Him alone.

The final two verses read “Serve the Lord with fear and rejoice with trembling. Kiss the Son, lest he be angry and you be destroyed in your way, for his wrath can flare up in a moment. Blessed are all who take refuge in him.”

Jesus is not simply the sweet, loving shepherd often presented. He will be Ruler over all in the New Heaven and Earth. He deserves our respect and devotion and we must fear for those who decide to encamp with the Enemy.

Psalm 3 is a short morning song of King David written during a great time of strife in his later life.

His son, Absalom, whom David loved dearly, attempted to remove his father from the throne so he could rule over Israel. Absalom was evil in his desires, yet deeply loved by his father.

First, let’s go back to 1 Samuel 13:14, where God reveals that David, a man after God’s own heart, had been chosen, would be anointed and eventually replace Saul as King of Israel. During most of his life David remained extremely close to his Heavenly Father.

In my opinion, this psalm was placed here to remind us to constantly remain close to the Holy Spirit as He encourages and watches over us.

Please listen attentively to verses 3 through 5: “But you are a shield around me. O Lord. To the Lord I cry aloud, and he answers me from his holy hill. I lie down and sleep; I awake again because the Lord sustains me.”

Can you sense David’s deep devotion and trust in his Deliverer?

There is one caveat. In order for these words to penetrate your heart and your mind and your soul, you must first come to know and trust in Jesus as your Savior and Lord. In other words, you must turn from your selfish desires and give Him your life this day forward.

Once you do, then you’ll see it’s “as easy as 1-2-3!”
