CDPHE reminds all Coloradans that testing is free, easy, and convenient | Colorado COVID-19 Updates - Colorado COVID-19 Updates

STATEWIDE, (August 26, 2021): With a recent rise in COVID-19 cases and positivity rate across the state, the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE) reminds all Coloradans to get tested and isolate if they have symptoms, regardless of their vaccination status. The positivity rate is the percent of all COVID-19 tests that return a positive result.

“Testing is one of the most important tools we have to slow the spread of the virus that causes COVID-19,” said Scott Bookman, Incident Commander, CDPHE. “Whether someone is vaccinated or not, we encourage people to get tested if they are feeling unwell or experiencing symptoms of COVID-19. With more than 95 free community testing sites across the state, we are committed to ensuring it’s easy and convenient to get tested. Broader testing uptake helps us most effectively track and slow the spread of the virus throughout the state.”

In addition to community testing sites, Coloradans may also obtain a free COVID-19 test at Walgreens and other select pharmacies if they have symptoms or have been exposed to COVID-19. View this PDF list of free pharmacy testing sites to find a site. Testing at these sites is free to all. Photo ID will be required to obtain a COVID-19 test through this pharmacy program. Proof of insurance may be requested during registration, but is not required. Visit the U.S. Health and Human Services Covid-19 testing website for more information.

Our commitment to providing easily accessible testing to help slow disease spread includes prioritizing testing in schools. The statewide school testing program is scheduled to launch Sept. 7 to ensure testing is readily available to all students and educators to help students safely continue school in-person with minimal disruption. So far, 383 schools have expressed interest in the program and 72 of those are already enrolled. This encompasses 14 school districts as well as private schools and the Colorado Charter School Institute. Parents/guardians will be able to sign their children up for the testing program through a portal link provided by participating schools. Additional information is available on our website.

While testing is critical in schools, families -- especially those with children too young to be vaccinated-- should follow public health guidance outside of school. The rise in pediatric cases began in July before many schools began, making evident that children are susceptible to COVID-19 outside of school, as well. Parents/guardians can help stop the spread of COVID-19 by having their children wear masks, avoid large gatherings, and teaching them to consistently wash their hands after touching frequently used objects.
