WooSox notebook: Nothing is coming easy for the WooSox right now - MassLive.com

WORCESTER -- It has not been an easy stretch for the WooSox.

The WooSox have dropped nine of their last 11 games, and with Friday night’s loss, they’ve been outscored by the RailRiders 38-14 so far this series. They managed just two hits a night after RailRiders pitcher Sean Boyle allowed no hits in a seven-inning game against the WooSox.

The team is in the midst of a grueling part of the schedule in which they’ve had to play eight games in six days against the RailRiders, who are battling with the Buffalo Bisons for first place in the Triple-A Northeast Division.

“Mother Nature has not been kind to us,” manager Billy McMillon said. “It’s about trying to manage workload pregame so guys can have it at game time. It’s not the last time guys will be put in this situation, so hopefully, they can learn from how we prepare and go about our business.”

The schedule doesn’t get any easier for the WooSox as they prepare to embark on the season’s longest road trip, a two-week stretch in which they play in Buffalo and Rochester. Mother Nature might mess with their travel plans as well, as Tropical Storm Henri moves into the area on Sunday and will likely bring tons of rain and high winds.

What is there to do when nothing seems to be going the WooSox’ way?

“Just keep at it,” Josh Ockimey said. “Unfortunately, we ran into some pitchers we’ve beaten before and they made some adjustments. But we’ll continue to adjust with them and hang in there.”

Christian Arroyo goes 0-for-3 in rehab appearance

Rehabbing Red Sox infielder Christian Arroyo went hitless like almost everyone Friday night, but he was tested in the field much more than he was on Thursday. He tried to make a diving play on a ball just out of his reach, and almost got a runner at the plate on a relay throw from the outfield.

At the plate, he popped out to short, flew out to center and grounded out to short before he was lifted after seven innings.

Durbin Feltman finds a way to get RailRiders out

The RailRiders had no trouble with any of the pitchers the WooSox put on the mound Friday, that is until they got to Durbin Feltman in the ninth. Feltman was the only WooSox pitcher to escape the 14-2 loss without allowing a run. He struck out one in his inning of work.

Feltman has been impressive in his time with the WooSox, especially as of late. He hasn’t allowed a run in his last four appearances, two of which were two innings long.

Fans fill the stands for Friday night fireworks

Even a 13-0 stinker of a game couldn’t drive away WooSox fans, as most of the 8,331 fans in attendance stuck around for the full nine innings so they could take in the Friday night fireworks. This week’s theme was the music of the Beatles.

The final two Friday night fireworks themes are Pride Night on Friday, September 10, and a theme to be announced for the last homestand which is from September 22-26.

One of the most popular promotions, Bark in the Park, in which fans can bring their dogs to the park, is scheduled to take place on Sunday for the final game of this homestand, but Mother Nature may have other plans. Fans can bring their pooches either on the concourse or on the berm in left and center field.
