VIDEO: Tariqious Tisdale following Sunday's scrimmage
No one was pleased with the way the Ole Miss defense performed in the Rebels' first scrimmage of fall camp. That included senior defensive end Tariqious Tisdale, who drew the short straw to speak for the defense on Sunday.
Tisdale was in the room to hear his head coach offer up his own lamentations of the defense's performance just before he took his turn at the podium. He was already prepared to block out the outside noise resulting from the unit's difficult day on Sunday.
"We're just going to keep our heads down and keep working. I ain't worried about what nobody else has got to say," Tisdale began. "I know the work we put in. I know what we go through each and every day, and that's all I'm worried about...is us growing every day and getting better."
The Ole Miss defense had just turned in a spirited, energetic and even impressive first week of fall camp only to have perceived progress unravel in a 120-minute span on Sunday. A veteran unit with a host of new and promising faces resembled more of last year's squad that finished 126th out of 127 FBS teams in total yardage allowed (519 ypg.). Turning the fortunes around has been very much on every player's mind. There has been a parade of defenders speak of a collective chip on the shoulder of the unit.
Tisdale remains optimistic.
"There's always something to work on every day. Like nobody's perfect. I see us growing. I see us developing. We've got a lot of young guys that's coming along...some JUCO transfers that's coming along. Come September 1, we'll be ready," Tisdale said.
What are the next steps in rectifying Sunday's scrimmage performance?
"Getting in the playbook and go back to work. Get in the film room," Tisdale said, who registered two sacks in the scrimmage.
The Rebels will not practice on Monday. They will return to the practice field Tuesday morning.
