Nelson Agholor acknowledged what Mohamed Sanu, Joey Galloway and Chad Johnson displayed during their brief stints with the New England Patriots — adapting to the Patriots system often isn’t easy for veteran receivers.

But Agholor, who played the first five years of his career with the Philadelphia Eagles and last year in Las Vegas, was embracing the difficulty.

“Things are going well, but nothing is perfect. There’s a lot of room to improve. Every day that’s my goal — to keep getting better. It’s not easy,” he said. “It’s O.K. if it’s not easy. It’s a good opportunity for a lot of people. I’m here to embrace it.”

Agholor, who signed a two-year, $22 million contract during the offseason, is comfortable in his approach.

“That is the unique part. New is exciting but it isn’t always easy. Just trying to embrace it. Embrace new and adapt and let it all come together. Sometimes it gets frustrating. I promise you that,” Agholor said. “There’s excitement when we execute. When we truly trust the process. There’s an opportunity to do something truly special once we put the pieces together and put the work in. ... I’m excited to lay the (building) blocks down and lay the foundation and get in the right groove to prepare for the first one.”

With that in mind, he’s treating Sunday’s opener against Miami like it’s a long way off.

“I kind of just focus on this week of practice. I don’t even get a chance to get overly excited about the first game. I think more about this week’s preparation and what’s being installed and my approach on this week, and then I go from there,” he said. “It’s very important that through the week of practice we do what we need to do. That goes for the quarterback, the pass catchers, the line, and just do our jobs so that Sunday is a little more of a dress rehearsal.

“It’s very important to be where your feet are,” he added. “To let today be a day of learning and growth and let tomorrow be another day, a chance to watch practice tape and have the conversations you need to have. That’s what’s going to help - the reps, the conversation and the film study.”
