It was a terrific response from the Atlanta Hawks, taking it to the hapless Detroit Pistons and coming away with a 122-104 victory. Yes, the Pistons were without leading scorer Jerami Grant and first-overall pick Cade Cunningham. Still, it was clear the Hawks took their performance in the loss to the Clevland Cavaliers on Saturday to heart.
Bogdan Bogdanovic bounced back with 14 points on 55.6 percent shooting.
It was a nice get-right for him, but not the big game we’d hoped for coming in thanks in part to his 2-of-6 three-point shooting.
Kevin Huerter (14 points, four assists) drew the start for a sick De’Andre Hunter and got his first triple of the season while John Collins (22/7/2/2) created another couple of posters.
The high-flying forward caught lobs from Huerter and Cam Reddish in this one. However, it was Trae Young that was the star of the night.
The Atlanta Hawks got a big game out of Trae Young to take down the Pistons
Atlanta’s superstar had 32 points on 61.9 percent shooting and went 2-of-5 from downtown while chipping in nine assists, and a steal to just two turnovers. Young entered the night as one of three players to average a points-assists double-double and one of three Hawks players to have a double-double of any kind.
The Hawks were the only team with three players averaging a double-double but that is no more after two of the three dropped out, one of whom is our dud of the night.
