No safety issues reported as Vigor stays unbeaten with easy win at Escambia County - AL.com

In a game moved up three hours Friday due to “safety protocols,” Class 4A No. 3 Vigor defeated Escambia County 46-0 in Atmore.

Shawn Butler, Escambia County’s director of career and technical education, said earlier today the game was moved up to accommodate having a greater law enforcement presence “due to concerns voiced from the other system.” No specifics were provided.

The game kicked off at 4 p.m. instead of the normal 7 p.m.

Vigor coach John McKenzie told AL.com everything went smoothly.

It went really smoothly for the Wolves, who improved to 6-0 and 4-0 in Region 1 play. Escambia County fell to 1-5, 0-3.

Anthony Mix Jr. completed half of his eight passes for 55 yards and a pair of scores – 17 yards to Abraham Daniels and 27 yards to Brennan Maye-Jordan. Jacori Barnes led the ground game with 50 yards on five carries.

On defense, Melvin Towner had a 22-yard interception return for a TD, Jermaine Agee had an 80-yard interception return and Maye-Jordan had a 52-yard fumble return.

Brandon Purifoy had 11 tackles, a sack and a fumble recovery. Daniels had six tackles and two sacks. Brandon Whitsett had seven tackles, while Arenza Davis had six tackles and two sacks. In addition to his interception, Towner was credited with 10 tackles and three sacks.

The Wolves held Escambia County to 11 yards rushing on 18 attempts and 30 yards passing.
