A winter storm is taking aim at Starved Rock Country. The Quad Cities National Weather Service office thinks snow may start falling at Princeton about mid afternoon Monday. Bureau and Putnam counties could receive up to ten inches of snow by early Wednesday. Heavier amounts will fall further west into Iowa. Snow may come in two or three rounds before it ends. It will get breezy, but 40 mph gusts are possible by late Tuesday.
Six or more inches may fall in La Salle County, but it's expected to mix with rain sometime Tuesday as temperatures warm to the middle 30's. Expect difficult driving conditions with much blowing and drifting.
At this time, Bureau and Putnam will be under a Winter Storm Watch about 6pm Monday until 6am Wednesday. La Salle County has no watches, advisories or warnings at this time.
The Weather Service says we're entering an active period of precipitation. A second snow event may follow midweek and a significant storm may develop somewhere in our area for the weekend.
What you can do now is to prepare your home. Buy needed supplies and have a plan should you lose power. Have a plan to stay in touch with family members who may have to travel during this time. Check your vehicle over and have a storm kit with food and weather gear.
